SUMMARY:Ainsley's Angels Frosty 5K
DESCRIPTION:A question that we hear a lot at events is\, “Who is Ainsley?” \nPeople see our gear and want to know. They expect us to turn around and point out someone in our group. Instead\, we get to explain how a little girl with a beautiful smile inspired her family to spark a movement that has changed the lives of thousands of people across the nation. Whether it be through rolling\, running\, volunteering\, book readings\, or witnessing our members at an event\, people have been changed. Some of us never had the honor of meeting Ainsley in person\, but the course of our lives has been forever altered nonetheless. \nOn February 23\, 2016\, she completed her earthly race\, and we continue to honor her-through advocacy\, education\, and celebration. Ainsley lives on through all of us: every smile\, hug\, high five\, the joy on the faces of caregivers\, the rejuvenation of the athletes as they embrace a new reason for running\, the tears coursing down cheeks as emotion swells\, laughter\, and every memory we make as a family-she is there-smiling down on all of us. \nSo please continue to ask\, “Who is Ainsley?”

SUMMARY:YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathon
DESCRIPTION:This event  has become a major fund raiser for the YMCA over the years. According to Dick Jones the  current Y director this event raises money for community outreach in our county. Dick has also turned into a triathlete much because of the good energy being radiated from all involved in such a great event. While interviewing Dick for this article he just wanted to thank the Town of Wrightsville Beach\, New Hanover county\, and The city of Wilmington for allowing such a major event to take place\, because without their cooperation it would not be possible.

SUMMARY:Ainsely Angels 5K
DESCRIPTION:Ainsley is the daughter of Kim and Lori Rossiter.  Kim\, or ‘Rooster’\, is a retired Marine Corps Major. Born in the middle of three children in 2003\, Ainsley\, was diagnosed with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD) just before turning four years of age. INAD is an extremely rare terminal illness that has slowly caused global paralysis. \n  \n\nWhen Ainsley went for her first jog during a local road race in 2008\, she gave a radiant wind-induced smile that anyone would envy. In an instant\, running provided the family with a therapeutic means to fight the devastation associated with learning and trying to live with the fact that sweet Ainsley had a terminal illness that would eventually take her to heaven in February of 2016.\n\n\nWe invite you to watch the video at the top of this page\, as it truly captures Ainsley’s energy and her impact on our world.

SUMMARY:YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:The YMCA Wrightsville Beach triathlon first held in 1979 was the brainchild of Karl Sutter\, then a resident of the beach. Karl was competitive by nature and had been college swimmer \, then a few years after college had taken up running to get back in shape.  While running one day he sprained his ankle and turned to cycling as an outlet for fitness while his injury healed. When reading Sports Illustrated in the spring of ‘79 he noticed a small article about the first Ironman triathlon with it’s 12 participants that was held in Hawaii the prior fall. Karl approached the Wilmington YMCA which was under the direction of Jack Morris at the time and a new event for the area was born. This triathlon named the Pepsi/Ymca Triathlon would become the first and longest running triathlon on the east coast of the US with its start of 99 participants that September\, 1979.
